The 5 Best Dance Classes in Amsterdam to Find Your Groove

  • Class variety: We favoured studios with plenty of styles to try, so you don’t have to studio-hop just to switch things up.
  • Beginner friendliness: We looked for classes where complete newbies can learn without feeling thrown in at the deep end.
  • Scheduling flexibility: We picked studios with enough time slots to work around busy Amsterdam weeks.
  • Value for money: We compared trials, passes, and memberships to find options that won’t make your wallet dance away.

I’ve been canvassing dance studios around town, and finding the best dance class in Amsterdam is less about fancy mirrors and more about the right fit.

Some places are built for total beginners, while others feel ready to launch you straight into audition mode.

Amsterdam’s dance scene has plenty of personality, whether you’re after salsa, ballet, hip-hop, or something a bit more experimental.

I’ve looked into local studios to see which ones actually stand out beyond the polished promo photos. Here are the spots worth putting on your dance card.

How much does a dance class cost in Amsterdam?

A single drop-in dance class in Amsterdam usually costs around €15 to €20. This is a good option if you want to try a studio before committing.

An unlimited one-month trial pass can cost about €95. It’s better value if you plan to attend several classes.

Multi-class packages generally range from €56 to €140. The final price depends on the number of classes included and the studio.

1. Extremos Salsa & Bachata

extremos-salsa-bachata

Website

Address: De Oude Veiling 25H, 1689 AA Zwaag

Contact: +31 6 21654818

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 6 PM – 10:15 PM | Friday, 7 PM – 9:15 PM | Saturday, noon – 5 PM | Sunday, 2 PM – 6 PM

If Latin dance is calling your name, Extremos Salsa & Bachata makes the first step feel a lot less intimidating. They’ve been teaching salsa and bachata for more than 25 years, with beginner-friendly classes where you don’t need to bring a partner.

I like that their beginner programme is structured into manageable six-week courses instead of tossing newcomers straight into the deep end.

The school also advertises more than 80 classes a week, which gives busy schedules plenty of room to wiggle.

Another plus is the variety of Amsterdam venues, so you’re not tied to one studio location. That makes it easier to find a class close to work, home, or wherever your week has dragged you.

The downside is that classes are spread across different venues, which can make things a little less straightforward for newcomers. You may need to double-check where your session is happening before heading out.

Pros

  • Beginner-friendly salsa and bachata classes
  • More than 25 years of teaching experience
  • No dance partner required
  • Six-week beginner courses
  • Wide weekly class selection
  • Multiple Amsterdam venues

Cons

  • Classes are spread across different locations (newcomers may need to double-check the venue before each session)

Cannot wait for the next class every single week

Very good instructors with amazing classes. There is a lot of work but a lot of fun as well. I cannot wait for the next class every single week. If you want to learn how to dance salsa, you need to enrol in this school.

Overall, great school to dance in!

A really great dance school with fun and good head teacher Ivan!

The lessons are the right mix of fun, but also focusing strongly on moves and technique. Often new joiners from other schools are surprised by the level of attention they spend on getting the basics right, which is important.

Thursday social dancing is also great.

Overall, great school to dance in!

2. I Love Chicas Academy

Website

Address: Atlantisplein 1, 1093 NE

Hours: Check class schedule

I Love Chicas Academy feels like the kind of place that makes dancing less intimidating and a lot more fun. The women-focused setup covers everything from Reggaetón and Twerk to Zumba, Salsa, and Bachata.

I like the four-week choreography format because you actually get time to learn a routine instead of chasing new steps every class. There’s even a video element at the end, which gives the month a satisfying little finale.

The €17 single-class option is handy if you’d rather test the waters before committing. Its international, community-driven feel also makes it especially approachable if you’re new to Amsterdam.

The catch is that choreography classes build week by week, so joining late in the cycle can leave you playing catch-up. It’s worth checking the schedule and starting near the beginning of the month.

Pros

  • Women-focused, welcoming dance community
  • Wide mix of dance styles
  • Four-week choreography cycles
  • €17 single-class option
  • Friendly for international residents
  • Fun end-of-cycle video element

Cons

  • Joining mid-cycle can mean playing catch-up
  • Not ideal for dancers whose schedules vary

I love chicas is an amazing dance community. The classes are all different and always fun, and the instructors are great! Every month we learn something new and do a different choreography. I look forward to class every week!

The dance classes are always a safe space

Zumba class & Twerk class of Yosery is always a good vibe with good energy. I feel more confident and sexy after that class. Zumba class is fun to join to dance and to work on your body. Yosery takes her time to help and explain and gives you a good feeling. The dance classes are always a safe space and if your a shy for the first time, it’s normal and you will feel more confident joining this dance classes.

Hours: Daily, 10 AM – 11 PM

Dance For Your Pole 107 is a fun pick if your idea of dance includes climbing, spinning, and discovering muscles you forgot existed. With three nearby studios and more than 100 weekly classes, there’s plenty of room to find your level.

I like that the timetable goes beyond standard pole with aerial silks, flexibility training, Burlesque, Contemporary Dance, and more. The €11.99 trial class also makes it easy to test your grip before committing properly.

Classes cater to beginners through advanced students, so you don’t need circus-level confidence to start. The central Amsterdam location is another bonus if you want something easy to reach after work.

The downside is that the programme leans heavily towards pole, aerial, flexibility, and performance-based styles.

If you mainly want a traditional ballet or hip-hop school, you may prefer somewhere with a broader conventional dance timetable.

Pros

  • More than 100 classes each week
  • Three nearby Amsterdam studios
  • Beginner to advanced levels
  • Pole, aerial silks, flexibility, Burlesque, and more
  • €11.99 trial class
  • Central, easy-to-reach location

Cons

  • Less suited to those after a traditional ballet or hip-hop school

Great workout, nice flow, a lot of fun

One of the best places in Amsterdam. Great workout, nice flow, a lot of fun. It is more than a pole dance studio. It is all about friendship and a supportive community. Everyone is welcome, no matter if they are fit or not in the best shape. So see you there!

The teacher was cool and corrected when needed

Went for the 10 am Sunday class. Once you see the studio, remove your shoes and then to the left you will see the restroom and coat area. I loved the newbie class; the teacher was cool and corrected when needed.

4. Danceout

Address: Overtoom 87H Baarsjesweg 202 VROG, Mr Visserplein 7

Contact: [email protected]

Hours: Check class schedule

Danceout is a strong pick if you want street styles with more substance than just copying choreography. Its eight-week cycles cover everything from Dancehall and Afro Street Styles to Reggaeton, Hip-hop, and Heels.

I like that you train with the same small group throughout the cycle, which makes classes feel more social and less anonymous. You also work towards a professional group video, so there’s a proper payoff at the end.

Miss a class, and you’re not completely stranded, since catch-up tutorials are shared through the group chat.

Some courses also dig into the culture and origins behind the moves, which gives the dancing a bit more depth.

The downside is a lack of flexibility because regular courses follow a structured eight-week format. Trial classes are generally limited to the first week, so spontaneous drop-ins aren’t always practical.

Pros

  • Eight-week choreography cycles
  • Small, consistent class groups
  • Dancehall, Afro Street Styles, Reggaeton, Hip-hop, and more
  • Professional group video included
  • Catch-up tutorials for missed sessions
  • Some classes explore cultural background and origins

Cons

  • Regular courses require an eight-week commitment
  • Trial classes are generally limited to the first week
  • Less flexible for spontaneous drop-ins

An amazing safe space to start or rekindle your dance experience!

I started dancing with Katie a few months ago, and I am still looking forward to every single class. Such a positive vibe! Katie and her team really know how to make you feel comfortable and confident. The danceout community is an amazing safe space to start or rekindle your dance experience!

Has a lot of patience explaining dance moves

Tiana is a great teacher. She knows a lot about reggaeton and she has a lot of patience explaining dance moves. She makes sure everybody feels good in her classes, she provides a community feeling

Pole Dance Factory Amsterdam is a great shout if you like your workouts with a bit more spin, swing, and upside-down ambition. With two Amsterdam locations and around 120 classes a week, there’s plenty to keep your routine from getting stale.

I like the range here, from beginner pole and aerial classes to flexibility and choreography sessions. The €13 trial class also makes it easy to give the studio a go without committing straight away.

The Oost location feels especially handy if you want lots of class options under one roof. Experienced instructors and level-based sessions also help make the learning curve feel less daunting.

The catch is that the booking rules are fairly strict. Late cancellations can cost you a class credit, and arriving too late may mean you can’t join the session.

Pros

  • Around 120 classes each week
  • Two Amsterdam locations
  • Beginner-friendly pole and aerial options
  • Flexibility and choreography classes
  • €13 trial class
  • Level-based instruction

Cons

  • Strict cancellation policy (late cancellations can cost a class credit)
  • Very late arrivals can mean you can’t join

It was a great workout and an intense lesson on exotic dance

I had a private class with instructor Yasmin, and it was great! Yasmin is a very friendly and professional teacher, very inspiring. I enjoyed every minute of the class. It was a great work out and intense lesson on exotic dance. The place itself is very cozy and have everything you need, like lockers, cozy changing rooms and other. The gym is really cool, different equipment for dancing, good lighting and a lot of space. Also many things that make it corona safe. Highly recommend it!

Incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and supportive

I’ve been going to this studio for almost a year, and every time I’m so happy, grateful, and excited to come back. Every teacher I’ve met has been incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and supportive. I live quite far away, and someone once told me that there’s a pole dance studio in my city. But I refuse even to look for a closer studio because I know PDFA is the best! ❤️‍🔥

And thank you for having two locations! Luckily, the eastern one is still accessible enough for me 🙂
