5 best photography studios in Amsterdam that are totally worth the shot

We’ve honestly lost count of how many times we’ve shown up to a shoot only to find inadequate lighting, barely any space to move around, or gear that simply doesn’t work.

It’s maddening, especially when you’re trying to create something great, and the environment just isn’t working in your favour.

That’s what finally prompted us to sit down and explore the best photography studios in Amsterdam. We wanted places that actually help you create, not hold you back.

And if you’re like us, focused on quality and prefer not losing your mind mid-shoot, this list should point you in the right direction.

How much do photography studios charge in Amsterdam?

Most photography studios in Amsterdam typically charge between €50 and €150 per hour to rent their facilities. This price typically covers the studio space, lighting equipment, and sometimes additional props or backdrops.

XYZ Studios is just a quick 10-minute ride from Amsterdam Central Station. It’s super convenient to reach via the IJ tunnel and ferries, and their ground-floor studios make it easy to load and unload heavy gear.

We were genuinely impressed by the variety of spaces they offer. Studio A, which is 140m², is ideal for e-commerce and portrait photography.

Studio B, at 300 square metres, is ideal for larger shoots and events, thanks to its seamless cyclorama. And then there’s Studio C, a spacious 660m² that can double as an event venue, complete with a professional bar and plenty of natural light.

A client who rented the studio even shared that he received a complimentary coffee and full access to the space.

What also stood out to us was their selection of around 30 different 2.75 m-wide background rolls, available as add-ons, opening up numerous creative possibilities.

However, a starting rate of €275 can be a bit pricey. If you’re planning multiple sessions, consider their package deals. They can save you a significant amount of money compared to booking each session individually.

Pros

  • Accessible location near the central station
  • Multiple studio sizes for different needs
  • Easy ground-floor loading access
  • Wide selection of backdrop rolls
  • Natural light and event-friendly space

Cons

  • High starting rate at €275

    Light-filled space and excellent service

“Beautiful, light space and a great working environment. Excellent service. Thanks and we’ll come back soon!”

A helpful studio team for a smooth shoot

“We had a shoot at XYZ studios for the first time this week and were extremely happy with how the day went. The studio managers helped us very well with the setup and were very friendly and helpful. It is a nice space with all the amenities you need for a great shoot!”

We appreciated that the Studio Muse is well-equipped with all the essentials you might need. These include tripods, flashlights, radio triggers, and a suspension system for background rolls.

Additionally, a dedicated makeup station is included. We love that it features a clothing rack, mirror, steamers, and a fitting area. You can also choose from a variety of backdrop rolls for just €5 per colour, excluding VAT.

But what we like the most is that they’re the best affordable photo studio in Amsterdam. They offer fantastic rates for students and non-commercial photoshoots, making it a great choice for anyone on a budget.

For commercial projects, you can get started at just €60 for a 2-hour session, with half-day and full-day options priced at €80 and €100, respectively. Students and those working on non-commercial projects enjoy even better rates, with just €51 for 2 hours.

Just a heads up though: the studio is a bit off the central path, so it’s a good idea to have a map handy or use a reliable navigation app to help you find it without any hassle.

    Pros

    • Affordable pricing for students
    • Competitive commercial shoot rates
    • Fully equipped with lighting and gear
    • Dedicated makeup and styling station
    • Wide selection of backdrops available

    Cons

    • Location is hard to find

Easy booking and great lighting equipment

“Amazing photography studio! The booking process was super easy and quick.  The owner was very friendly and quick to respond with questions. And the space and equipment was wonderful.  It came with all of the standard lighting required to do a great shoot.  The studio team was there to give us instructions on how to work with their equipment. Thanks so much again to the Studio Muse team, and I look forward to the next shoot there!”

Professional gear at an affordable price

“Great studio with professional equipment for an affordable price. I would recommend this place.”

Studio Noorderfabriek is where industrial history meets creative energy. It’s a former factory, complete with a historic fireplace, now home to a vibrant artistic community.

They’ve transformed this authentic space into three distinct studios: the Nordic, Mediterranean, and Yume.

We like Studio Nordic the most because it captures the essence of Scandinavian design with its clean lines, minimalist appeal, and calming colour scheme. We also appreciated that the studio has an abundance of natural light.

We’re giving the Mediterranean Studio an 8.5 out of 10 rating since we like that it embraces warm colours and natural materials. However, its offerings are more limited compared to other studios.

Meanwhile, Yume Studio draws inspiration from Japanese aesthetics. We like the soft curves and flowing lines.

Additionally, we appreciate that each studio offers perks such as unlimited coffee and tea, as well as a fully equipped kitchen.

However, it’s worth noting that if you wish to extend your session, it can be quite expensive at €74.50 per half hour. The availability may also be limited due to high demand.

      Pros

      • Authentic spaces
      • Has a fully equipped kitchen
      • Provides complimentary coffee and tea

      Cons

      • High extension fee per half hour
      • Limited availability due to high demand

Stylish birthday venue with unforgettable service

“What a beautiful location to celebrate your birthday for example. The hostess and her assistants ensure an unforgettable evening. Atmospheric, stylish, delicious dishes and drinks. Worth repeating. Highly recommended!”

“Beautiful spacious studio with friendly and helpful people. The rooms have beautiful natural light. We are extremely happy with our results and would definitely come back again!”

Atelier Oost Amsterdam is a true dream come true for anyone in the creative field seeking a stylish and adaptable studio. Located in the heart of Amsterdam East, this space offers three distinct studios: The Livingroom, The Loft, and The Playground.

We were absolutely fascinated by The Livingroom because it radiates a cosy yet sophisticated vibe. It’s the perfect setting for intimate branding shoots and lifestyle photography.

We also got to try The Loft studio, which reminds us of a chic New York City apartment. We like its large windows and minimalist decor, ideal for fashion editorials and high-end productions.

A friend of ours recently did a campaign shoot there and was glad to share the incredible lighting and the space’s versatility.

Aside from that, many customers loved The Playground studio for its props and furniture. Its minimalist corners and ample daylight make it an ideal spot for those experimental and artistic shoots.

However, it is worth noting that their rates are quite expensive. To get the best value, it might be worth checking out their hourly pass options.

        Pros

        • Stylish and adaptable studio spaces
        • Distinct themed studios
        • Natural light and minimalist design
        • High-end interiors for editorial shoots
        • Wide variety of props and furniture

        Cons

        • Higher rental rates

          Beautiful space and great service

“Shooting at the loft was an absolutely amazing experience! The space is so beautiful. The welcome by the hosts was so kind and loving. Great service. Me and my photographer had an absolute blast, I can’t wait for the pictures!”

This location is perfect for a shoot

“This location is perfect for a shoot. We were warmly welcomed in attractive surroundings. Besides the fact that it is already a beautiful space, it was also easy to style it to your own taste with your own attributes. The different angles allow you to go in any direction with a photo shoot and it feels like you are in a big house while you are secretly in a loft room 🙂 We will definitely come back!”

Amsterdam Fotostudio is hands-down one of the most practical and professional photography studios on this list.

With a 60-square-metre studio featuring 3.20-metre-high ceilings, plus another 60 square metres for makeup and a cosy lounge area, it’s hard not to be impressed.

But what really caught our attention was their fully stocked setup. It’s complete with softboxes, octaboxes, beauty dishes, and a variety of background colours, all at your disposal.

Their rental prices are even transparent. Their rates start at only €200 for a half-day studio rental, €60 for the photo flash set. All of these are complete with remotes and €50 for continuous lighting, such as the Nanlite Forza 300.

While the studio’s design is sleek and modern, we do wish there were a bit more stylistic variety or themed options. A few other clients we spoke to mentioned the same, that the space, while super functional, can feel a bit too plain if you’re aiming for a more immersive vibe.

Regardless, we love that there’s always a parking spot right outside.

          Pros

          • Spacious studio and lounge area
          • Fully equipped lighting and gear
          • A practical studio in Amsterdam
          • On-site parking available
          • Clean and professional setup

          Cons

          • Limited themed or style set options

            Easily accessible with ample parking

“Beautiful complete studio for photography and film. Easily accessible and ample parking. Richly equipped with professional equipment.”

The photos of our products are far beyond expectations

“A fantastic studio! The photos of our products are far beyond expectations. They have a lot of detail and are beautifully crafted. This is exactly what we were looking for! Absolutely recommended!”
