The 8 spots for the best wine tasting in Amsterdam that will satisfy your refined taste

I’m no sommelier, but I do love some good vino. I guess that happens when your friend marries a half-Italian, spends some time in Italy, and returns with a deep appreciation of fine wine.

Lucky for me, they returned to Amsterdam and brought their passion—and obsession—along with them.

Since then, we’ve made it a tradition to search for the best wine tastings in the city. It’s become a regular group date, though my friend almost always handles the reservations. I, on the other hand, just soak it all in and enjoy the wine.

After years of exploring, we’ve discovered that wine tasting in Amsterdam can be incredibly satisfying. And as true Amsterdammers, we’re excited to share our list with you.

1. Wijnbar Paulus Amsterdam

Website: https://www.wijnbarpaulus.nl/

Address: Ceintuurbaan 348, 1072 GP

Contact Details: [email protected]

Hours: Monday: Closed | Tuesday to Thursday: 5 PM – 11 PM | Friday to Saturday: 3 PM – 11 PM | Sunday: 3 PM – 11 PM

Pricing: €€

Wijnbar Paulus is one of the first wine-tasting spots we visited, mainly because it’s located at the heart of De Pijp. My first thought was how homely it looked and felt. The inside of Wijnbar is like the chic living room or stylish kitchen bar of a modern Amsterdam home.

Then, we got to the wine tasting—half glasses of wines curated by Paul, the owner. With Paul, wine tasting comes with a fascinating history lesson. He tells the story of every wine, whether it’s the winemaker’s tale or the place where the wine was made.

Aside from being one of the first we visited, Wijnbar is also one of our favourites. That’s because Paul changes his wine list fairly regularly, so much so that there’s a good chance of a new vino every week.

Pro Tip:

Go for the 6 half glasses package for €35. That translates to €5.8 for every half glass of wine instead of €6.2 when you go for the 3 and 4 half glasses option if you’ve got the budget, top things off with Iberico Bellota ham for €13.50 or the cheese platter for €12.50.

2. Bubbles & Wines

Website: https://bubblesandwines.com/

Address: Nes 37, 1012 KC

Contact Details: +31 20 422 3318

Hours: Monday: Closed | Tuesday to Saturday: 3 PM – 12 AM | Sunday: 3 PM – 10 PM

Pricing: €€

If Wijnbar’s atmosphere is more homely and chic, Bubbles & Wines is more elegant. It’s got wooden accents, maple-coloured tables, and low-lying hanging lamps.

The connoisseur plate matches this elegant interior. This wine plate includes three half glasses from Bubbles & Wine’s extensive wine and champagne list. It has wines and spirits from all over the world, and the selection is updated a few times a month.

What’s more, they serve wine using the Enomatic System. This system is a hi-tech way of dispensing wine that retains its freshness, aroma, and flavour. My friend’s hubby says it’s the best way to serve vino.

Of course, the best compliment to fine wine is light snacks, and Bubbles & Wine’s gourmet bites fit the bill. We agree that these bite-sized treats are arguably the best in our city. We especially love the five-kind charcuterie, yakitori chicken, and truffle tosti.

Pro Tip:

Bubbles & Wines serves pre-selected troikas of wine for the wine tasting. But if you’re going as a group of three or more, you can arrange to select the wines for sampling. It just comes with an additional fee, depending on your wine choices.

3. Clos Amsterdam

Website: https://closamsterdam.nl/

Address: Beukenplein 50, 1091 ML

Contact Details: +31 20 773 3043

Hours: Monday: Closed | Tuesday to Wednesday: 5 PM – 11 PM | Thursday: 5 PM – 12 PM | Friday to Saturday: 6 PM – 1 AM | Sunday: 3 PM – 10 PM

Pricing: €€€

Clos Amsterdam exudes a rustic vibe with its long wooden tables and old-style bar displaying fine wines.

Those wines are exceptional, but not because they’re from famed vineyards or well-known winemakers. Clos Amsterdam’s wines come from small, little-known winegrowers worldwide but are just as good. Personally, they’re among my favourites; they’re that good!

Their tasting typically comes in three and four courses. Either way, a Clos connoisseur will take you through every wine’s flavour profile and explain what makes each unique.

But what my friend and I really love about this spot is the socials it organises once or twice a week. Winegrowers are invited to talk about their wine and the winemaking process at these social events.

Pro Tip:

Mingling with small-scale winegrowers should be on every wine lover’s bucket list. So, check out Clos Amsterdam’s Instagram page to find out when they’ll bring a winegrower or two. Time your wine tasting accordingly.

4. Glouglou

Website: https://glouglou.nl/

Address: Tweede van der Helststraat 3, 1073 AE

Contact Details: +31 20 233 8642

Hours: Monday to Saturday: 3 PM – 12 AM | Sunday: 2 PM – 12 AM

Pricing:

Glouglou has this rustic feel to it. Put simply, the place looks more like a diner—the kind you’ll see in the 70s—than it is a venue for excellent wine tasting.

But make no mistake, Glouglou is a fantastic venue to taste some fine wine. And yes, they make their own wine. In fact, according to them, their wines are completely natural because they don’t use herbicides in their local vineyard.

Their wines look cloudy as compared to known brands. But we enjoy these local wines mostly because of their fruity, earthy tones. The taste of fresh berries and citrus is unmistakable—and we’re all for it.

We’re thankful Glouglou also sells their wines by bottle, making it easy to enjoy their unique selections at home.

Pro Tip:

Glouglou doesn’t take reservations and can get crowded with regular customers. So, to avoid rush, it’s best to visit right when they open.

5. Shiraz Jardin des Vins

Website: https://shirazamsterdam.nl/

Address: Lijnbaansgracht 267 HS, 1017 RL

Contact Details: +31 20 778 6313

Hours: Monday: Closed | Tuesday to Wednesday: 3 PM – 12 AM | Thursday to Friday: 3 PM – 1 AM | Saturday: 2 PM – 1 AM | Sunday: 2 PM – 11 PM

Pricing: €€

Shiraz Jardin’s atmosphere is warm and inviting, blending Middle Eastern designs and French influences. The seating arrangement is intimate, with high and low seats that make the venue ideal for casual gatherings.

Their collection is primarily global, though their Dutch line is pretty comprehensive. We once had the Apostelhoeve Pinot from the Limberg region of the Netherlands and a Wjnhoeve blend from Gelderland—all tasted excellent.

Meanwhile, my friend adores the menu here, which she describes as “heavenly”—and I’d say she’s right. We love the shrimp croquettes and the Iberico spare ribs on barbecue sauce. They’re just the right amount of salty and savoury to match with fine wine.

Pro Tip:

Consider opting for a private tasting. This option is excellent for groups of eight or more persons, making for a highly intimate and personalised experience.

6. La Dilettante Amsterdam

Website: https://ladilettante.amsterdam/

Address: Saenredamstraat 37, 1072 CB

Contact Details: +31 20 854 3518

Hours: Monday to Thursday: 4 PM – 12 AM | Friday: 4 PM – 1 AM | Saturday: 1 PM – 1 AM | Sunday: 1 PM – 12 AM

Pricing: €€

La Dilettante Amsterdam is located in the chic De Pjip neighbourhood. With dimmed lighting and candlelit tables, its atmosphere is light, hearty, and perfect for unwinding.

My friend says La Dilettante’s natural wines are among the best she has tasted. Guests can choose the per-glass wine-tasting option that perfectly matches the variety of pastries offered.

What I love most about this spot is their extensive collection of non-alcoholic wines. I have nothing against alcoholic drinks, but I think it’s cool that a wine store has as many alcoholic wines as they do non-alcoholic vino.

I’m also a big fan of their al fresco wine tasting. It’s a different vibe than the usual indoor wine tasting, and I think wine lovers would love it too.

Pro Tip:

Very few know this, but La Dilettante also serves speciality coffee. Ask the bar staff about it and get served some unique brews before or after your wine tasting.

7. Taste & Tintle

Media credit: robert_taste_tintle

Website: https://tasteandtintle.nl/

Address: Wilhelminastraat 39, 1054

Contact Details: +31 62 619 4748

Hours: Open 24 hours

Pricing: €€€

There’s a minimalist vibe inside Taste & Tintle. It’s probably due to the interior’s orange palette, long tables covered with white cloth, and a simple wooden shelf of expertly curated champagne.

Speaking of champagne, Taste & Tintle has an impressive collection of classics like Ornellaia from Tuscany and spirits like Rose Champagne. Plus, the list is also updated regularly.

The casual nature of the champagne tasting here is also lovely. It’s just like friends getting together to enjoy each other’s company over bottles of fine wine—champagne, in this case. That’s how friendly and accommodating the wine experts here are.

Another thing that guests enjoy is sabering, or the art of opening a wine bottle using a sabre. To our knowledge—only Taste & Tintle is authorised to offer this in Amsterdam. I haven’t tried it, but my friend did it once, and it was a great experience.

Pro Tip:

Try sabering for €199. The Confrérie du Sabre d’Or (a brotherhood) will teach you how, and you’ll get knighted after the workshop.

8. Wine & Roses

Media credit: wine.roses

Website: https://wineandroses.nl/

Address: Van Woustraat 163, 1074 AK

Contact Details: +31 20 337 3042

Hours: Monday: Closed | Tuesday to Friday: 11 AM – 7 PM | Saturday: 10 AM – 7 PM | Sunday: 1 PM – 5 PM

Pricing: €€

More of a wine store than a wine bar, Wine & Roses’ interior exudes a wine cellar-type vibe, with rack after rack filled with all kinds of wine.

In fact, this spot is one of my go-to wine stores because it has the most expansive collection of wine—including the best European offers like the Bettina Schumann.

Plus, most of the wine here comes from organically certified winemakers. I also like that many of these wines are available for tasting.

Like Taste & Tintle’s wine tasting, you’ll also experience the informal kind here. It’s as if your favourite sommelier is exchanging notes with you about wine—only these wines are some of the best in the world.

Pro Tip:

Buy vino from Wine & Roses by the box. You’ll get big discounts by doing so as opposed to purchasing wine per bottle. You’d save about €0.80 to €1 if you do this.
