The 5 Best Bike Shops in Amsterdam to Get You From Point A to Point B!

Inventory Variety: We looked for stores offering a wide range of options, from budget-friendly used bikes to electric models. A broad selection ensures that every type of rider can find a set of wheels that fits their specific daily routine.

Customer Support Quality: Shop staff needed to be welcoming, transparent, and willing to give honest advice without being overly pushy. Finding a trusted mechanic is important, so overall approachability was a huge factor.

Service Speed: Nobody wants to be stuck walking for weeks whilst their primary transport is in the workshop. We prioritised spots that offer rapid turnaround times for common repairs, including same-day fixes whenever possible.

Specialised Expertise: The local cycling scene is incredibly diverse, so we checked if they could handle specific needs, like cargo setups or electric motor diagnostics. Shops that go the extra mile definitely stood out from the crowd.

Moving around this city just isn’t the same without a trusty two-wheeler. It’s easy to get out and about without having to enrol in a driving school, so having your trusty bike is essential when you live here.

Tracking down the best bike shop in Amsterdam shouldn’t be tough, whether you’re an expat looking for a solid daily commuter or a parent needing heavy-duty repairs.

We’re sharing our trusted places, where transparent pricing, quality bicycles, and large inventories are front and centre. So, take a look at our handy guide to get you rolling!

Passionate service and unbeatable value

Passionate Service and Unbeatable Value I absolutely love this bike store. Roman is an absolute legend and provides amazing service. They have a real passion for bikes (in contrary to a lot other bike stores in Amsterdam that are just arrogant and where you have to wait more than a month. Besides, they give you the absolute best value for your money. and the second hand bikes are also amazingly priced

Honest advice and a smooth experience

I bought a bicycle from this shop and I am very satisfied with the experience. The price was reasonable and fair for the quality of the bicycle, and everything was clearly explained before purchase. The owner is extremely friendly, patient, and genuinely helpful, taking time to answer questions and offering honest advice. The service was smooth, professional, and efficient. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a reliable second hand bicycle and excellent customer service.

On top of that, they handle specialised work, like professional battery capacity tests and Doppio fatbike repairs.

If you book an appointment here, they usually finish small repairs within the day, making them a solid choice for emergencies.

The biggest downside, however, is that they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays, making weekend drop-offs impossible if you encounter an issue on your weekend ride.

Also, major maintenance checks can take up to three days, so you might need a backup plan if you’re in a massive rush.

Better Than New!

Nr. 1 bike shop!

This is really the best service I’ve ever received for my electric bike. Jennifer was super helpful and called after they inspected the bike for a quote, saying what really needs to be done and how much it will roughly cost. Within a couple of days, quicker than originally estimated, Salim had the bike ready for me to pick it up. It looked brand new, never had any bike shop before cleaned my bike when they serviced it, and when riding it, it feels like a new bike.

Rare Integrity and True Customer Care

I can’t recommend this bike shop enough. Jennifer and Salim take the time to explain what’s going on and help you find the best solution.

When an issue came up with my bike after the repair, they were immediately responsive, fixed it quickly, and went above and beyond to make things right. They didn’t charge me anything extra and truly put care and integrity first.

In a city like Amsterdam, that level of helpfulness, honesty, and customer care is rare. This is the kind of bike shop you want to come back to and confidently recommend to others.

One of our top picks is Otto-Bikes for their genuine, no-nonsense service. Here, you can expect cycling without the fuss, where reliable workmanship and a straightforward approach come first.

They carry a brilliant mix of everyday cruisers, modern electric models, and sturdy kids’ frames, so it’s easy to browse around.

The owner, Edwin, has been deeply rooted in the local cycling community since he was 21. When our colleague stopped by a few months ago for a quick tune-up, he worked happily on his obscure vintage frame without any hesitation.

As for their turnaround, we were pleased with the one-day repair service for minor issues.

Just keep in mind that they completely shut down for a few weeks during the summer holidays. So, if your chain breaks in mid-July, you’ll definitely have to look for help elsewhere.

Pros

  • No-nonsense service
  • Huge variety of cruisers and e-bikes
  • Highly experienced local owner
  • Quick turnaround for minor repairs

Cons

  • Closes during summer holidays

Perfectly tailored and professional help

I recently bought a bike from Joop Harmans and had such a great experience. The employee who helped me was very knowledgeable and genuinely helpful. They answered all my questions and carefully adjusted the bike based on my preferences and height, which I really appreciated as a shorter person. The whole experience felt very personal and professional from start to finish. I’m very happy with both the service and the bike, thank you!

Friendly service worth slashing a tire for!

Meet Sander, the guy who kindly took 30 mins out of his Saturday to repair my flat tire as I was biking all the way to Zaandam from Amsterdam. The employees in this shop were very welcoming and empathetic. I would slash my own tire to pay them another visit. Thanks again !

5. Bicycle Garden

bicycle-garden

Website: https://www.fietsentuin.nl/

Address: Weissenbruchstraat 25, kelder 23

Contact: 020 615 81 42

Hours: Tuesday to Friday 10:00 AM-6:00 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM-5:00 PM

What we like about Bicycle Garden is their fully secured, subscription-based indoor parking facility. They’re a convenient option if you live nearby and want peace of mind knowing your transport is locked up tightly.

Aside from that, they have an excellent inventory of secondhand and new bicycles. They take it up a notch by offering bike rentals, which is ideal for tourists.

They’re our pick for lightning-fast repairs, often getting your ride fixed and ready to go on the same day you drop it off. And if your repairs end up taking a little longer, they generously lend you a free loaner bike so you never have to walk home.

The main catch is that they firmly lock their doors on Sundays and Mondays. So, if you’re hoping to grab your freshly tuned wheels early on a Monday morning for your commute, you’ll have to wait until Tuesday.

Pros

  • Secured indoor parking subscriptions
  • Fast, same-day repair services
  • Free loaner bike during repairs
  • Bike rentals available for visitors

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays and Mondays

Becoming a real dutchie

Fantastic bike shop in the heart of Amsterdam. After searching for a bike all day I came across this place and instantly felt welcome by the shop owner who let me test multiple bikes, as it was my first she gave me plenty of advice and options to choose from. A shop that stands out from the rest with their friendliness alone but of course also their expertise. Good prices and good quality, I recommend to anyone. Now I am a real Dutchie with a new bike 🙂

Patient, thorough, and a perfect fit

Wow wonderful experience purchasing a second hand bike. Gislaine (I hope I spelled the owner’s name right) was really patient and let me try many bikes until I felt comfortable. She was also thorough in her explanations (eg 7 speed vs 3 speed bike; child seat options; etc). I walked away with a lovely new to me bike at a fair price and most importantly confidence that the bike fits me well.
