The 5 best golf courses in Amsterdam that turn tee time into playtime

I had no idea that a golf club would lead me to fall in love with Amsterdam. But there I was, tying my shoes, looking over the canal and windmill fairways, getting ready for a round in one of the most charming and surprising golf courses in Europe.

From the picturesque greens to the championship layouts and the friendly public courses, there’s truly something for every golfer here. I checked out a few local favourites and was pleasantly surprised by their quality, accessibility, and stunning views so close to the city.

So, here are the top golf courses in and around Amsterdam that are definitely worth a swing at.

If you’re looking for a unique golfing experience, the Amsterdam Old Course is a combination of classic charm and modern convenience. This 9-hole parkland course is ideal for both beginners and experienced players.

Aside from that, the course is beautifully framed by trees and well-kept greens that create a cosy ambience. It’s also one of the few places where you can play golf all day without having to go far from the city centre.

What makes this place special is the inviting clubhouse, De Drie Gemalen, situated in a former pumping station with beautiful industrial architecture.

I also absolutely adore their terrace. It’s peaceful and the perfect spot to unwind after a round of golf. They also have a Golf Academy on-site that provides lessons, clinics, and programs for kids.

Pro Tip:

Before your round, take advantage of the TrackMan range to analyse your swing data and select the best clubs for each hole. This can give you a real edge in the course.

De Hoge Dijk has three unique loops. Bullewijk and Holendrecht combine to form an excellent 18-hole A-status championship course, while the Abcoude loop offers a shorter par option that’s perfect for golfers of all skill levels.

Golfers are welcome to visit any day, with green fees ranging from €49 to €55 for 18 holes and €25 to €29 for nine holes. The place also features an advanced TrackMan driving range with 50 bays, along with chipping, putting, and bunker practice greens.

I really enjoyed playing the 9-hole Abcoude loop, especially with those risk-reward shots over water. Apart from that, the club features a brasserie, locker rooms, and complimentary Wi-Fi. They also have convenient on-site parking for just €1 per day.

Pro Tip:

Try to book a round early in the morning, as this place often gets shrouded in a lovely mist. You might just find the greens all to yourself.

The International Golf Club in Amsterdam is a golfer’s dream, designed by none other than Ryder Cup legend Ian Woosnam.

With its extensive fairways and panoramic views, it’s the perfect spot for serious golfers seeking top-notch quality. This exclusive 18-hole course is reserved for members and their guests, creating an upscale atmosphere.

One of the highlights for me is the private short-game area. It’s an ideal place to sharpen your chipping and putting skills in a peaceful setting. And let’s not forget the clubhouse that elevates the post-game experience.

Pro Tip:

If you’re playing near the 9th or 18th holes, don’t forget to bring earplugs. Aircraft from nearby Schiphol Airport often zoom by, which can be a bit distracting.

Kennemer Golf Club, located just outside Amsterdam, offers a world-class links experience. It was founded by legendary designer Harry Colt in 1928.

The course features a 27-hole layout divided into A, B, and C loops through coastal dunes and lush woodlands. You’ll find firm fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and a refreshing wind from the North Sea that adds to the charm.

I had the chance to play the C-loop, and I was instantly captivated by the excitement of Colt’s renowned 6th hole. A slightly mishit shot can easily find its way into deep bunkers. It’s a challenge that is both intense and thrilling.

For visitors, green fees range from about €100 to €140 for 18 holes. It includes access to the driving range, a TrackMan, and an equipped practice facility.

Pro Tip:

If you can, play shortly after the course has undergone maintenance. They often upgrade the bunkers to improve drainage, which results in firmer sand. This is ideal for testing your short-game skills.

The Amsterdamse Golf Club features an 18-hole parkland course that winds through tree-lined fairways and serene water.

I must say, I enjoy the spacious driving range, practice bunker, putting green, and a handy 3-hole short course—perfect for warming up before a round. Green fees are set at €85 for 18 holes all year round, including access to the practice range, courtesy of Albrecht Golf Travel.

The club also offers rental services for trolleys and electric carts, along with a welcoming pro shop and facilities for snacks and refreshments.

During my visit, I appreciated the club’s etiquette rules—soft spikes are required, and mobile phone use is not permitted on the course.

Pro Tip:

Don’t forget to bring your handicap certificate, and try to book those early morning tee times. You’ll enjoy a more peaceful experience and a better pace of play before the weekday crowd arrives.
